Branson’s secret destination for Virgin Voyages revealed – it’s the Beach Club at Bimini in the Bahamas

The ‘secret destination’ on all Virgin Voyages cruises has been revealed today – it will be the Beach Club at Bimini in the Bahamas.

The resort will overlook the ocean and ‘cascade down to the sea with an expansive lagoon-style pool’, according to the company.

Passengers will be able to spend a day there lying on the beach or exploring the local culture. The seven-mile island was a favourite of author Ernest Hemingway, who described it as ‘like the end of the world’.

Mornings at the resort will begin with yoga and meditation, while the afternoon will see DJ-led pool and flotilla parties. A beach bonfire will end the evening on shore.

Virgin Voyages said: ‘Sailors can feel the sand in their toes in a stylish setting with white sand and crystal-clear waters and programming that will rival the best beach clubs in Ibiza and Saint-Tropez.’

Founding DJ will be seven-time Grammy winner Mark Ronson on four dates in 2020 yet to be announced. The British-born DJ, producer and songwriter has topped the charts and collaborated with artists like Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Adele, Miley Cyrus and Bruno Mars.

The news came on the day that bookings for the cruise line’s first ship, Scarlet Lady, went on public sale. The first Caribbean season in 2020 will run from April 1 until October 21.

Virgin Voyages founder Sir Richard Branson also announced a birthday bash for celebrity friends and other passengers on board a four-night Havana After Dark cruise departing on July 15, 2020.

‘I’ve dreamed of starting my own cruise line since I was in my 20s, and now the launch is finally getting close,’ he said. ‘We have taken the time to think about every detail and craft an experience that brings the Virgin brand to life and disrupts the travel industry.”

Scarlet Lady passengers will enjoy free food at the 20-plus eateries, free group fitness classes, no gratuities or service charges, free WiFi and free basic beverages like soda, teas, and drip coffee, as well as still and sparkling water.

A total of four ships are on order from the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy.

Here’s a video I made on a shipyard visit to Scarlet Lady:
