The largest tall ship in the world, Golden Horizon, is to accommodate Croatian fans at the World Cup in Qatar.
The square rigger, which has been put up for sale by shipyard Brodosplit, will sail to the Middle East state in October, ahead of the international football tournament the following month.
News of the deployment came in a press release on the website of the Croatian Business Council which says it is a ‘non-profit organisation which aims to promote business, economic, trade and cultural relationships between the Republic of Croatia and the State of Qatar’.
Fans will be able to stay on the ship instead of a busy hotel, the council says. It boasts: ‘First-class service, top-notch dining, and elegant cabins, all with a sea view as part of the luxurious experience on board. Golden Horizon will be docked in a premium location in the heart of Doha Port.’
‘This project is a testament to a great relationship between our two countries and we hope that this will only serve to strengthen our bilateral ties,’ Mario Lozančić, president of the Croatian Business Council in Qatar, is quoted as saying.
In a separate link, it offers packages for the Group Stage, Final 16, Semi-Final and Final or the full 31-day tournament.
Brodosplit has been approached for comment.
