The largest tall ship in the world, Golden Horizon, has been put up for sale for £100million.

Brodosplit, the Croatian yard that built the square rigger, confirmed the news to me in a brief email. It later issued a clarification saying that selling the ship was ‘one of the options’ it is considering. The square rigger has been listed on a website at a price of €118million.

The future of the vessel, operated by Tradewind Voyages in the UK, has been in doubt since sanctions were imposed on the Russian-owned bank that lent Brodosplit money for Golden Horizon and another ship.

Tradewind Voyages was forced to take cruises off sale and has now cancelled sailings until October 2023.

Golden Horizon has had a troubled past, marked by legal disputes and financial difficulties. You can read a full history of its ups and downs here.

Star Clippers, which originally ordered the ship as Flying Clipper back in 2015, said it had no comment to make on the latest development.
