NCL promises ‘exciting news is coming soon’ as it cancels sailings on five ships

Norwegian Cruise Line says it will have ‘some exciting news to share very soon’ after cancelling sailings on five ships.

I reported on social media on March 23 that NCL had suspended ‘select voyages’ aboard Norwegian Encore, Jewel and Jade ‘and will soon announce a revised deployment schedule’.

It has now added Norwegian Joy and Gem to that list and posted a notice on its website saying: ‘Exciting news is coming soon’. Clicking on the link brings up a message saying: ‘We’ve been working non-stop preparing our ships and our crew to welcome you back on board our amazing fleet – and we’ve got some exciting news to share very soon.’

Speculation is that that the cruise line will either announce sailings from islands in the Atlantic, as Royal Caribbean , Celebrity and Crystal have done, or that it might deploy at least one ship to do round-Britain sailings, as Princess, MSC Cruises and P&O Cruises are doing.

An NCL spokesperson told me: ‘We continue to evaluate the viability of sailing select itineraries aboard the various vessels within our fleet. At this time, we are cancelling select voyages and will soon announce a revised deployment schedule.

‘Given the fluid and evolving nature of the circumstances, we are making decisions as quickly and thoughtfully as possible, continuing to keep our guests’ and travel partners’ best interests at heart. We will share additional updates as they are available.’
