Celebrity Cruises vice president Jo Rzymowska was isolated for 24 hours on Celebrity Apex after having lunch with a travel agent who later tested positive.
Rzymowska abided by her own cruise line’s strict protocols a day after boarding in Messina, Sicily, even though she herself tested negative.
She had to call off meetings until returning a second negative test at the end of her isolation in her penthouse suite today.
Rzymowska, whose full title is vice president and managing director, EMEA of Celebrity Cruises, was said to be ‘on the way to the Sunset Bar for a huge G&T’.
The travel agent, who is not being named, was given the positive result after being tested ahead of leaving the ship early in Palma de Mallorca. His was the only positive result among 137 people tested before the departure, the captain announced in a message to passengers.
Earlier in the voyage, tests before shore excursions in Messina returned another positive result. Both cases were isolated according to Celebrity’s protocols.
All passengers joining the ship in Athens, Greece, on October 3 had to give proof of vaccination and take an antigen test.
The voyage will end in Barcelona on Sunday. Celebrity Apex will then head to Florida for a naming ceremony in November. She’ll return to Europe next year to sail itineraries from Amsterdam.
