As Saga Travel gears up for a second new ocean ship next year, it has also announced a new-build boutique riverboat to sail on European rivers in the spring of 2021.

Having christened Spirit of Discovery in July, and with Spirit of Adventure lined up for the summer of 2020, Saga is now planning Spirit of the Rhine, which will not only sail on Germany’s longest river but also on the Moselle, Main and Danube, as well as Dutch waterways.

Almost all of the 17-square-metre cabins will have a French balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows so the 192 guests can enjoy the passing scenery.

The ship will feature a reservation-only restaurant with show cooking, as well as a main dining venue. There will also be a lounge and bar, library, gym and a sun deck with a hot tub, barbecue and extensive seating. Free WiFi will be available throughout.

Fares will include wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, as well as gratuities and airport transfers to and from home.

As with other Saga products, the riverboat – to be built by long-established Dutch company Vahali – will be designed for the over-50s.

Customers will be able to register their interest from today and bookings will be taken after the first itineraries are published on December 2.
