Prince Philip boarded Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 in Southampton today to celebrate her tenth anniversary.
The Duke of Edinburgh – Queen Elizabeth’s husband – also unveiled a painting of QM2 by Robert Lloyd to mark the ship’s first ten years of service.
As he entered a hushed dining room full of hundreds of guests, the 92-year-old Prince joked: ‘It’s very quiet in here.’
Philip was trumpeted into the Queen’s Room by a line of guards before QM2 Captain Kevin Oprey introduced him to VIPs.
He was applauded out of the Britannia dining room after lunch.
QM2 entered the port in the morning with sister ships Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.
She is setting sail later today on her regular transatlantic route to New York.
