‘Live your dream,’ says lone rower as Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 comes to her aid

Lone rower Mylène Paquette sent a message of thanks to Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 today after the liner came to her aid with a package of supplies.

Mylène, who is halfway through her 2,500-mile attempt to cross the Atlantic from Halifax in Canada to Lorient in France, was greeted by the cheers of hundreds of passengers as she was sent a buoy carrying a replacement satellite radio, a sea anchor to maintain her position at night, as well as fresh fruit, vegetables and toiletries.

The 150,000-ton ship came alongside Mylène in her seven-metre boat as she entered her 83rd day at sea.

In a message carried over the ship radio, the 34-year-old Canadian said: ‘Thank you for all the cheers, all your pictures. It was magic. Live your dream!’

Later, she told her control base the rendezvous was ‘the best day of my life’.

Cunard said: ‘The ship supplied fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, pastries, muesli, crackers, chocolate, plus bottled water and coffee, English tea, mint tea and hot chocolate sachets, a scraper to remove the barnacles underneath the boat, duct tape, soap, shampoo and body lotion. Plus postcards of Queen Mary 2!’

The sign Mylène held up said: ‘Thank you, Queen Mary 2. Merci!’

  1. Reblogged this on A Delectable Life and commented:
My step-sister-in-law (can we use that term?) must be thrilled for her sister Mylène for getting this fantastic help after having flipped over during a storm and losing a few supplies. What a fantastic trip she is on! Go, Mylène, Go! Tu es capable!

  2. Two grand ladies meet in mid ocean. One is old, wise, beautiful and compassionate while the other is young, tenacious with a willingness to follow dreams beyond ones imagination. What a touching and wonderful meeting?
